Vision Therapy

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is a non-surgical, customized program that is designed to correct vision problems in both children and adults. While eyeglasses and contact lenses are a great solution to help those suffering from common vision problems, they are not always enough. Vision therapy aims to teach the visual system how to correct itself, instead of relying on other devices to do the job for our eyes. You can think of vision therapy as physical therapy for the visual system.

How Does it Work?

Depending on your particular situation and what you need to correct, vision therapy can use lenses, prisms, filters, and even computer-assisted visual activities to re-train the eyes. Balance boards, metronomes, and non-computerized visual instruments are also a big part of these programs. One of the best parts about the vision therapy program offered here at First Eye Care is that we are able to customize the plan to you. We work closely with each of our patients to determine what their issues are and what tools may help correct them. A successful vision therapy program requires dedication and commitment from both the patient and our team here at First Eye Care.

The overall goal of vision therapy is to treat vision problems that cannot otherwise be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or surgery. Numerous studies have shown that vision therapy can be quite effective, especially for school children who are having problems with efficient reading. It can also help reduce eye strain and other common symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome among children and adults.

Some of the vision problems commonly treated with vision therapy include:

  • Amblyopia (lazy eye)
  • Strabismus
  • Binocular vision problems
  • Eye movement disorders
  • Focusing disorders
  • Other vision problems, including those associated with developmental disabilities and brain injury

Here at First Eye Care, we believe in thorough and complete diagnostics in order to find solutions that benefit our patients. We have two convenient locations in Downtown Dallas and Irving, Texas. Please visit one of these for more information on our vision therapy services.
